Cichlids

Contained within New Zealand's largest tropical freshwater aquarium are a
variety of Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganjika Cichlids.

Lake Malawi in South East Africa has a surface area of 30,000 km2, a depth
of 700m and holds the largest population of cichlids found anywhere.

Lake Tanganyika is the seventh biggest lake in the world at 34,000Êkm2
and ranks as the second deepest lake of the world at a depth of 1.5km.
There are more than 200 different species of cichlids that are endemic
to this Lake.
