Saltwater Crocodiles Crocodylus porosus
In April 2009 our two huge Aussie Saltwater crocodiles were relocated from Australia to their new billabong home at Butterfly Creek.
Scar and Goldie weigh in at almost half a tonne each, which is equivalent to the All Black front row - plus a lock and a skinny halfback! Relocating this combined tonne of reptile required the help of the Royal NZ Air Force, a Hercules transporter plane and five croc wranglers to get them here - it was a very exciting flight! Read about the full story here.
Now happily settled in Butterfly Creek you can see Scar and Goldie every day in their awesome enclosure which gives you a real close up view of these impressive beasts. Even better, you can catch them in action with our keepers at one of 2 daily croc encounters
