Kids Birthday Parties
Butterfly Creek is a great children's birthday venue offering a great day out with yummy food, animals, a train ride, playground, excitement and a party!
We offer two rooms to host our parties in – the Buds party room & the Billi deck. The Buds party room is beside the trampoline and playground and it has its own deck and a colourful wall! The Billi deck is a room off the end of the café with glass doors that can be closed off for your exclusive use on the day of your party. It looks out over the train station and the wetlands, it is also close to the playground.
We offer three different party options catering to every budget –
How to plan your party:
Arrange for your guests to meet at a certain time that suits everyone - you can either go straight into your booked room at the booked time or you can meet in the courtyard earlier to explore, then you can go into your room when it is available.
When you arrive at Butterfly Creek on your party day, your envelope with the pre-paid wristbands and train tickets will be ready to collect for you in the shop. You can leave your cake with the café staff to refrigerate if required.
Each party differs as there are encounters on that you might like to see. For example if you have the Billi deck booked from 1 - 3pm, you may like to eat at 1.30pm, because you want to see the Crocodile encounter at 2pm. The train departs every half an hour, you can choose when to do this. You can stay at Butterfly Creek after your party, so a good piece of advice is to use the room to its' advantage when you have it and if you haven't seen everything by the time the two hours is up, you can stay until you have seen everything!
Typical birthday party agenda:
• Meet and greet your guests in your party room (15 mins)
• Go explore – butterfly house, monkeys, aquarium, alligators, bugs, baby crocs & big crocs (30 – 60 mins)
• Come back and eat your party food, have a drink, then cut your cake (30 mins)
• More playing and exploring – farm, train (30 mins)
• Exit the room when your two hours is up
• If you have time then stay to see more and a play in the playground

If you don't know your final children numbers an estimate is fine – we will confirm with you a week before the party.

FAQ'S
Is there a minimum number of children to get a party package?
Yes we need to have a minimum of 10 children. For any parties with children less than 10, you can book a table in the café and still bring in your own cake. Please note the party package is not available for the café bookings, however we do have a kids menu. For more information please email - functions@butterflycreek.co.nz.
Do adults have to pay? Can they pay on the day?
They can attend the party in the room for free, but if they want to see the attractions and animals then they need to pay. They can purchase tickets at the shop on the day at a discounted party rate of $19.50 (normally $26.50) which includes a train ride. If they are found without wristbands in the animal areas, they may be asked to leave and the party host may be charged their entrance fees.
Can I bring in my own food?
No, we do not allow food to be brought in and consumed on our premises. We have delicious food and drinks available for purchase in our café.
Can I bring in my own cake and loot bags?
Yes you can or alternatively you can purchase from us. Please note - the crocodile party package comes with loot bags.
Is the train included and when can we catch it?
Yes in all 3 packages the train is included, the train runs every half an hour starting at 10am. To avoid disappointment at busy times, please arrive 5 minutes before the train is due to depart.
Are babies free? Are there age conditions?
If you want a child to be catered for food and drink, a place to sit around the table, and see the animals, then yes you need to pay for them. If they are a baby (e.g. 6 months old) and will not eat, or sit at the table, then they are free.
Will the food be enough for the children? How much do they get?
We cook the food according to how many children you have. For example - if you have 14 children then we will make 14 Butterfly cupcakes, if you have 16 children we will make 2 cheerios each and 2 nuggets each so they end up with a plate of food each. The food is placed in platters/bowls down the centre of the table. Most of the parties always have enough food and leftovers. If you think they will eat more than a plate each of food, please order more from the adults menu.
Will I have a party coordinator to run the party?
You will have a coordinator that will set up your party and clean it up for you. As we are busy with the parties, the coordinator is not with you at all times and they are not a tour guide, they are there to make sure your party runs smoothly.
