Welcome Butterfly Creek’s Teacher Resource Hub!

Every year our living classroom offers thousands of students the chance to explore and connect with nature and learn all about the animal world. When you book a Butterfly Creek visit you will be provided with Learning Resources to aid your groups visit. We have also pulled together below a range of free resources for your class to use anytime to enrich learning in and outside the classroom, regardless if you are visiting.

We will be regularly adding new resources, photos and activities to this page so register for our teacher’s newsletter or let us know if you want something specific by emailing us at [email protected] and we will forward it to you. We love hearing from schools so please feel free to get in touch with feedback or animal focused requests.

June Quick Write Activity – Goldie Tail Whip

  1. Watch the video several times and discuss what is happening
  2. Make a word wall to describe what is happening – what words could they use to make their writing more interesting for us to read?
  3. Write a short story to describe what is happening in the video. The crocodiles name is Goldie.

Example: With meat suspended and swaying above his head, Goldie plotted his next move. Waiting in anticipation, Goldie thrashed his tail with excitement for what comes next… lunch. Launching out of the water, snapping his ferocious jaws he missed once but twice the meat was his delight. Yum. Simply just do the activity for fun with your class or you can also get the kids to enter their writing to win a double pass to Butterfly Creek.

All entries must be submitted by email to [email protected] by 5pm on 28th June. Winner will be announced the following week.

Photo & Video Library

Here you will find a selection of photos and videos taken of our animals at Butterfly Creek. These can be used in a variety of ways including for Oral discussion, caption the image, to write stories – observe and describe and to make connections about living things. Also every month, we will share a picture or video to be used for a Quick Write activity. There is even the chance for a student to win a double pass to Butterfly Creek.
