Butterfly Creek is home New Zealand’s only saltwater crocodiles, Scar and Goldie.
They were saved from a crocodile farm and relocated here from Australia in 2009. They had been originally captured from the wild because they had been classified as ‘problem crocodiles’, posing a threat to humans and livestock.  At Butterfly Creek they can enjoy a life of sunbathing, eating, sleeping and swimming!

You can find out more about Scar and Goldie during our daily crocodile encounter at 1pm. This is an amazing opportunity to learn about the special features of saltwater crocodiles and watch them feeding. Find out more here: https://www.butterflycreek.co.nz/explore-crocodiles

These Cool Crocodile resources have been designed with primary aged children in mind but many of the activities are suitable for all ages. Our interactive choice board supports curriculum planning by providing activity ideas for several learning areas whilst promoting key competencies. They could also be used by tamariki in an online classroom environment to assist with independent learning.

We’d love to hear from you if you’d like to share examples of how useful these resources have been.

Please feel free to email us at [email protected] with any feedback, suggestions, or photos of your children’s work.
